Hendricks Power Cooperative announced today the finalists of its “Home
Energy Check” weatherization contest, held during the co-op’s Energy
Efficiency Breakfast Expo on Sept. 26. Ten member customers were chosen
at random from the nearly 300 in attendance to receive free home energy
audits. Following the audits, one lucky winner will be chosen to
receive up to $6,000 in home energy repairs. Contest finalists were
Kevin Burgess, Ronald Fleming, Thomas Harmon, Joe and Joan Miller,
Sarah Faith Mitchell, Lenard Pence, James Poppe, Ginger Rezy, Pamela
Sue Short and Rex Skillman.
Each finalist will receive a home energy audit, which involves a formal
examination of how a home uses energy and includes steps homeowners can
take to improve efficiency and lower monthly electric bills. In
addition to an audit, the winner of the contest will also receive home
energy improvements including a heating and cooling system check,
appliance upgrades, insulation, water heater pipe wrap, low-flow shower
heads and compact fluorescent light bulbs for the entire house. For

During
the Breakfast Expo, Hendricks Power Cooperative members also had the
opportunity to meet Energy Advisors Steve Hite and Gregg Wright. With
the help of local experts, Hite and Wright provided members with
important, money-saving energy efficiency information. They also
offered suggestions for replacing or upgrading systems, and provided
rough estimates for both the cost and savings customers can expect
following their own home energy audits.
“Our Energy Advisors are trained to determine a home’s energy
efficiency and how to improve it,” said Hendricks Power President and
CEO Donnis Mizelle. “The expo served as a great way for members to meet
our advisors, and learn more about what they can do to save energy and
money in their own homes.”
