2013 Indiana Electric Cooperative
Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

2013 delegate is Carlee Ennen, Avon High School

Carlee will join other Indiana high school juniors for a life changing experience on the 2013 Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. The trip, designed to educate youth about the impact they can have on our government, begins June 13 in Indianapolis and ends on June 20.

This year's delegation includes 79 students representing Indiana's electric cooperatives. In 2012, over 1,550 students from around the country attended the conference.

Students will learn about our nation's legislative process through activities that include participating in a Youth Tour Rally where they will share thoughts and opinions on a variety of timely legislative issues. They will also visit with representatives of Indiana's Congressional delegation on Capitol Hill and participate in a simulation designed to immerse the students in the high-pressure decision making world of a member of Congress. Students have the opportunity to compete for a $1,000 scholarship and a return trip to Washington, D.C. as a member of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association's (NRECA) Youth Leadership Council.

The Indiana delegation will experience our country's history first hand with stops at the Gettysburg National Battlefield, Arlington National Cemetery, the Flight 93 and Pentagon 9/11 Memorials, the National Museum of the Marine Corp., the National Mall Memorials and the Smithsonian. Other notable events include the Newseum, a night cruise on the Potomac River and an All States Dance.

Indiana's electric cooperatives has hosted the Youth Tour since 1960. Applications for the 2014 Youth Tour will be available in December 2013.
